Apprenticeship Registration
The apprenticeship program of the Independent Electrical Contractors association is a four-year program combining classroom instruction and on-the-job training sponsored by the New Jersey Apprenticeship & Training Program. The program is designed to provide the beginning apprentice with the necessary theoretical and practical training to eventually earn the status of Journeyman Electrician. A minimum of 576 hours of classroom instruction and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training are required to complete the program. Both the classroom instruction and on-the-job training are under the direct supervision of the Apprenticeship and Training Committee. At the end of the instruction and training period, the apprentice will receive a completion certificate from the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship.
All classes will start in September 2024. All classes are in-person and will meet in Somerset, NJ at 20 World's Fair Drive, Unit F in the evenings from 6:30-9:30pm.
Tuition is $3,500 per student per program year.

SUBMITTING A SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION

Step 1: Application Fee - Pay the Application Fee. A link will be sent to you via email after the application fee is paid with the application and math assessment.

Step 2: Application - Fill out the application and complete the Math Assessment. The math assessment must be completed independently within 1 hour. No outside assistance from others or the internet is permitted. Calculators are allowed. A 75% or above is a passing score.

Step 3: Documentation - After completing the application and math assessment you will receive an email requesting documentation (Driver License, High School Diploma/GED, and Birth Certificate). Please reply back to the email with the requested documents.

Step 4: Application Status - You will receive an email with your application approval status from NJIEC.
Step 5: Invoice - You will receive an electronic invoice from QuickBooks/Intuit to pay your $3,500 tuition. Books are included. Electronic payments only. You will not be considered registered for class until tuition payment is received in full.

While we actively promote our students to the more than 200 New Jersey IEC contractor members for employment consideration, securing employment ultimately depends on various factors including market conditions, individual qualifications, and employer preferences. It's crucial to understand that to earn on-the-job training hours and be registered with the U.S. Department of Labor as a Registered Apprentice, a student must be employed by a licensed contractor. The New Jersey IEC does not provide direct employment but serves as a conduit for connecting students with potential employers. Prospective participants are encouraged to thoroughly assess their own circumstances and job prospects before enrolling in the program.
