GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS & MERIT SHOP ADVOCACY
Protecting fair competition, strengthening the electrical workforce and making sure New Jersey's merit shop contractors have a voice in Trenton and Washington.
ADVOCACY THAT PROTECTS YOUR BUSINESS
A Strong Voice for Merit Shop Electrical Contractors
NJIEC advocates for an electrical contracting industry where contractors can compete based on skill, safety, quality and value - not labor affiliation. Working at the state and national levels, IEC helps educate lawmakers and regulators on policies that affect electrical contractors, apprentices and the future of the skilled trades. Our goal is simple: protect free enterprise, expand workforce opportunities and make sure merit shop contractors have a seat at the table when decisions are made.
KEY ISSUES WE ADVOCATE FOR
APPRENTICESHIP
Support high-quality, employer-led apprenticeship programs and policies that expand pathways
into the electrical trade.
FREE MARKET COMPETITION
Protect fair and open competition so contractors can win work based on merit, performance and value.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATION
Promote practical standards that protect the public while allowing qualified electrical contractors
and workers to compete.
PROJECT LABOR AGREEMENTS
Oppose government-mandated labor agreements that can restrict competition on taxpayer-funded construction projects.
JOBSITE SAFETY
Support strong safety standards, training and policies that improve jobsite safety without unnecessary barriers.
MAKING AN IMPACT
From Trenton to Washington, NJIEC and IEC National turn member priorities into action.
1. Issue Advocacy
We bring the merit shop perspective directly to policymakers through legislative outreach, public comments on proposed regulations, grassroots Action Alerts, coalition work, letters to Congress and, when appropriate, legal advocacy such as amicus briefs.

FREEDOM FUND
IEC's Freedom Fund supports issue advocacy rather than candidate campaigns. It helps fund legal, legislative, coalition and voter-education efforts that advance merit shop priorities.
